Fue en 1996 que Thievery Corporation fue reconocido por su ya clásico disco electrónico Sounds From the Thievery Hi-Fi. Este disco ya indicaba su habilidad para mezclar sonidos aparentemente divergentes para crear un estilo totalmente nuevo. Gracias al éxito del disco hicieron una serie de remezclas para David Byrne, Pizzicato Five, Stereolab, Baaba Maal y muchos otros artistas. Dos años más tarde, en agosto de 2000, Thievery Corporation sacó a la venta The Mirror Conspiracy. Este disco representó un paso adelante en el sonido de Thievery Corporation en cuanto a estilo y envergadura. El disco no sólo fue un éxito de críticas sino que también logró vender más de 350.000 copias mundialmente sin el apoyo de la radio comercial ni de una multinacional. A principios de año Hilton y Garza fueron escogidos por Verve para seleccionar sus temas favoritos del archivo de este seminal sello de jazz. El recopilatorio se llamó Sounds from the Verve Hi-Fi, una alusión irónica al debut de Thievery Corporation y sirvió para presentar los clásicos de Hilton y Garza a un nuevo público. Thievery tuvieron el honor además de remezclar la canción de Astrud Gilberto, Who Needs Forever, que aparece en el disco Verve Remixed. Después llegaría su The Richest Man In Babylon. Rob y Eric lo consideraron en su día su trabajo más introspectivo hasta la fecha. Ese álbum los abre hacia algún lugar entre el rock, el dub, la psicodelia, los ritmos latinos y la electrónica. La diversidad de sonidos que se encuentran en The Richest Man In Babylon no debería sorprender a los que ya conocen al dúo que tienen un bagaje musical muy diverso tal y como demostraron en el mix, The Outernational Sound donde mezclan bossa, soul y cualquier cosa que les masajee el oído y además en su propio sello Eighteenth Street Lounge. Un nuevo Cd mix que se saboreó como otro coctail de lujo por sus seguidores fue su Dj Kicks (Studio !K7) de 1999 con material de Dj Cam, Jazzanova o A forest mighty black. The Cosmic Game es hasta la fecha su último trabajo en las tiendas y cuenta con las voces de sospechosos habituales como David Byrne y otros nombres no tan obvios como The Flaming Lips o Perry Farrell.
